Wolverhampton Tips: John Reel

Unexposed on the flat but has a good blend of speed and stamina. Should relish the step up to two miles.

John Reel might be 6-years-old but he is unexposed and an exciting prospect for the 3.40 Wolverhampton.

Initially bought to be a hurdler, he only made his debut on the flat in November and has already made a strong impression.

Last time out he won a valuable handicap at Lingfield in fine style. He quickened well off a slow pace (108.2% finishing speed) running the final 2f in 22.74s.

He was the fastest finisher in the field and value for double his 1.75 length margin of victory.

Still rated only 85 there is plenty of headway in his handicap mark and it is interesting that John Egan considers him a stayer.

The Marathon on Good Friday looks ideal for him because stamina shouldn’t be an issue for a horse who has won a 2-mile hurdle race.

More importantly, he has the potent turn of pace that can win tactical affairs. He’s already good enough to win a race of this calibre but the step up in trip could be the making of him.
