Wolverhampton Tips: Divine Call

Wolverhampton Tips: Divine Call

Ran a rapid 23.16s closing sectional, quickening off a strong pace. Horses rated 60 don’t usually do that and he can be rated much higher than his current mark.

The 4.15 Wolverhampton is normally a race I’d ignore because it includes five of my notebook horses, flagged because of recent eye-catching performances. Four, Camodora, Head Space, Captain Ryan and Coquine are drawn in stalls 10-13 but that is not the primary reason for opposing them – the reason is Divine Call.

Last time out he achieved the rare feat of quickening off a solid gallop. The race finishing speed was 101.5% of the average race speed, close to par,  yet Divine Call came home 0.79s quicker than anything else.

The 9-year-old helped run a fast fraction because he was held-up but he covered the final 2f in 23.16s, quick by any standards. His was the 269th fastest closing sectional from the last 5872 runners at the track putting him in the top 5%. No mean feat for a horse rated 60.

The handicapper has only put him up 2lbs and he’s won off much higher marks before. On my adjusted speed ratings, he earned a mark of 72 and is capable of winning here and in a higher grade.

We saw Milton Bradley with a glut of winners last November/December and perhaps this is another horse who has recaptured his best form.
