Wolverhampton Tips: Desert Law

Finishing speed of 96.5% proves he went off too fast at Windsor last time out but he wasn’t beaten far and still recorded a good speed rating.

The 8.20 Wolverhampton is a cracking sprint handicap and Desert Law is a terrific bet for several reasons.

Last time out he ran an absolute belter to finish fourth in a decent handicap at Windsor.

Normally a horse beaten three lengths wouldn’t raise an eyebrow but the manner of his defeat suggests there is much more to come.

For some reason Kieren Fallon went tearing off in front at a pace that simply wasn’t sustainable on good to soft ground. Desert Law tired markedly in the final two furlongs, his finishing speed of 96.5% a sizeable deviation from par.

The fact Desert Law was still capable of achieving a good speed rating despite going off too fast is to his immense credit.

This evening he races at Wolverhampton and that itself is a tip. Saeed bin Suroor has a 34% strike rate (26-77) at the track over the past five seasons and the switch to a Tapeta surface should only improve matters.

Desert Law has spent the last couple of winters in Dubai and although he raced on turf, I am sure he will have trained on Meydan’s Tapeta surface.

The 6-year-old has won off this sort of mark before and rates as a cracking bet at 8/1 (Skybet).
