Wolverhampton Tips: Captain Lars
Finished 1.25 lengths behind Zipedeedodah over course and distance last month but ran faster closing sectional, has 5lbs pull and is better drawn.
Since being dropped back to sprint trips on the all-weather Captain Lars has finished 5243 in his last four starts, never being beaten more than 1.75 lengths.
That consistency has seen his mark remain unchanged but with a bit better luck he can win again. His last two starts have come in class 4 company, which is beyond his scope but in the 2.30 Wolverhampton he drops into a class 5 handicap.
The last time he raced in this level, over course and distance, he finished second behind Zipedeedodah but when adjusting for sectional timings he comes out on top by 0.3 of a length.
Zipedeedodah controlled the race from the front by setting a moderate gallop, whereas Captain Lars had to come from further back partly due to his wide draw and partly due to his running style. Captain Lars covered the final 2f in a rapid 22.72s, quicker than the winner by 0.16s.
This afternoon Captain Lars has the better draw and enjoys a 5lbs pull with Zipedeedodah. Cheek-pieces are replaced by a visor, which he wore for his last two wins and all these small factors could make the difference.
