Wolverhampton Tip: Samarmadi

The official handicapper doesn’t often make mistakes but it doesn’t seem he pays heed to sectional timings because I cannot fathom why he’s given Samarmadi an opening mark of 75.

On strict terms he beat the 73 rated Dirchill by half a length off level weights so a mark of 75 seems logical but this ignores the subtleties of horse racing.

Samarmadi was making his debut (Dirchill’s fourth start) and he was poorly positioned in a steadily run contest. Samarmadi came from further back and ran the fastest closing sectional by 0.25s. He won a race that has gone to sprinting luminaries like The Tin Man and Mediciean Man and his is better than his opening handicap mark.
