Wolverhampton Tip: Mohatem

Wolverhampton Tip: Mohatem

Raced prominently in a race where the leaders went too quick but hung in there admirably on his first start in well over a year.

It can be frustrating when horses go up the handicap without winning but Mohatem can defy a 5lb hike for finishing second at Kempton.

Returning from over a year on the side-lines, Mohatem could have done without being pitched into a race run at a furious gallop and under the circumstances performed with credit. Tracking an overly strong pace, he was the only horse to feature at the finish with the other four pace pressers filling the bottom five positions.

After such a long absence, Mohatem would have been within his rights to wilt in the home straight but he kept going and was only beaten half a length.

In defeat, he earned an adjusted speed rating of 81 but it deserves viewing in a positive light given his absence and the fact he raced three wide around the final bend.

This lightly raced 4-year-old is probably much better than an 83-rated horse, especially given his connections and can prove it in the 7.20 Wolverhampton.
