Wolverhampton: Steelriver

Is 2/2 in claimers over course and distance including winning this race last year. Recent defeat might put punters off but his closing sectional was 11th quickest from last 630 runners at track.

I simply don’t get the way the market is moving in the 12.20 Wolverhampton. Requinto Dawn’s revival has been predicated on a return to 6f and racing on the Fibresand, neither of which he is doing today. He might simply set-up the race for last year’s winner Steelriver.

His price is a result of punters being burnt at odd-on last time out but I forgive him that run. It turned into a 2f sprint for home and he simply let the winner get away from him. His closing sectional of 22.85s was perfectly good, it’s the 11th quickest from the last 630 runners at the track and was 0.2s quicker than the winner.

A return to 5f is also interesting. He is 2/2 in claimers over course and distance and is carrying 7lbs less than Requinto Dawn after taking into account jockey allowances. He looks much the better bet.
