Wolverhampton: El Hombre

Running better than bare form. Found 5f too sharp three starts back and then got an interrupted passage over optimum 6f. Won a very similair race to this two years ago and is 6lbs lower.

The 2.25 Wolverhampton is full of horses capable of running big speed ratings but blighted by inconsistency. El Hombre falls into that same category although his inconsistencies are more easy to explain.

The 6-year-old has been working his way down the handicap having started the year rated 91 and now looks ready to win. Three starts back he wasn’t beaten far in a 5f contest at Wolverhampton, a trip short of his best. He then finished 8th over 6f, beaten five lengths by Misty Grey but he was shuffled into rear early in the race and never got a clear run up the home-straight.

Last time out at Lingfield he clocked an impressive pace adjusted speed rating of 76, finishing a close third. That was his best effort but his body of work suggests he is a horse in-form and ready to strike.

Two years ago he won a class 3 handicap at Wolverhampton off a mark of 87 and well drawn in stall one, he can strike off a 6lbs lower mark.
