Windsor Tips: Pearl Ice

Looked a smart sprinter when a wide margin winner at Ripon. Had excuses since and should return to form today.

The 4.35 Windsor is a cracking sprint, with several horses trying to make up for Wokingham disappointments. However, the most exciting sprinter in the field is Pearl Ice.

At the start of the month he was a mightily impressive winner at Ripon and I see no reason to desert him. He only has one victory to his name this season but with better luck it could have been three.

On his seasonal reappearance he had no chance from stall 2 at Doncaster, as high numbers dominated the finish. He was then desperately unlucky when badly hampered at Thirsk, only failing to win by a head.

At Ripon we saw his true colours; running out an easy 2.75 length winner. He earned an excellent speed rating from me and that was backed up by the Racing Post, who gave the performance a rating of 105.

Needing another win to get into the valuable Wokingham at Royal Ascot he returned to the track 3 days later. The turnaround must have been too quick as he flopped when 6/4 favourite.

With no excuses, I expect him to return to the high level he showed at Ripon. A repeat of that form makes him a snip at 4/1 (Paddy Power).
