Torres Can Score At Kempton

Slipped to his lowest ever mark but still a cut above the opposition if getting the strong gallop he craves.

You cannot go any lower than the 5.10 Kempton, a class 7 handicap for horses rated 50 or lower.

Having been rated 75 just 18 months ago, it is a shock to see how far Torres Del Paine has fallen but he retains enough ability to win a race of this standard.

A four-time course and distance winner, he has ideal conditions and has shown some sparkle during the winter.

Three starts back he was only beaten three lengths in a race that didn’t suit his running style. Usually held-up in rear, he needs a strong gallop and the leaders to come back in the home straight. That’s not been happening in recent starts.

In a 12-runner field, I expect someone to cut out the running and given the moderate calibre of the horses, there isn’t anything that can match the finishing burst of Torres Del Paine in a strongly run race.
