Thirsk Tips: Novalist

Ran well against a couple of big biases recently and should handle soft conditions.

The 9.20 Thirsk isn’t the Wokingham, nevertheless the big field creates plenty of value. The quality might only be moderate but Novalist has been running much better than his recent results.

Last time at Folkestone, he ran well to finish fourth despite being disadvantaged by his draw. Four of the first five home were drawn against the favoured stand’s rail, with Novalist the only horse to break the trend from his wide draw.

His run at Carlisle can be ignored as it was on unsuitable fast ground but before that he again ran well to finish fourth at Ripon. He was the second highest finisher from the stand’s side group, with only Bosun Breese bettering his run. That horse has since struck a hat-trick of wins and is rated almost 25lbs higher than his 3.5 length win over Novalist.

At 12/1 (Betfred) he is one of the few horses who has run better than his recent form.
