Take It Steady

Take It Steady

Steady Pace finished a good third at Royal Ascot but should improve for the step up to 6f.

Steady Pace isn’t the most appropriate name for a precocious sprinter and it proved to be his undoing at Ascot.

The Godolphin juvenile finished third in the Windsor Castle but it was a race framed by the tearaway Ruby Notion. Wesley Ward’s filly set a furious gallop and although the field tried to ignore her, they still went a strong pace.

Steady Pace was near the front for most of the race and paid for his exertions in the last 200 yards as the more patiently ridden Areen came flying past to grab second.

Saeed bin Suroor said he will improve for the step up to 6f and I’m inclined to agree. The early pace will be less strenuous allowing Steady Pace to save more for the finish.

At 9/2 (Bet365) he looks the best bet in what is admittedly a trappy looking contest.
