Take Cover All Speed
Won the race last year and showed blistering early pace at Royal Ascot. The sharper track plays to his strength.
Take Cover is trying to defend his City Walls Stakes in the 2.55 York and judged by his run at Royal Ascot, he has every chance of being successful.
Adam Kirby set a furious gallop in the King’s Stand Stakes, covering the first 5f in 35.01s, the fastest first 3f at the track this season.
Understandably, Take Cover couldn’t sustain the strong pace and faded into sixth, his finishing speed was 96.8% of his average speed, which indicates he was tiring at the end.
At York, his blistering early speed is an advantage. Last year Take Cover won in 56.50s but at Ascot he covered 5f in 59.11, which indicates just how much stiffer the Berkshire track is.
I expect Adam Kirby to try and make all and at 6/1 (William Hill) he has a good chance.
