Taajub Loves Ascot

Taajub Loves Ascot

Finished second on last start over course and distance despite being disadvantaged by the draw.

Taajub almost landed a big win a fortnight ago and compensation awaits in the 4.35 Ascot.

His record over 5f at the track reads 24122000342, which is even more impressive when you consider he is usually up against 16 or more rivals.

He was particularly unlucky last time when he was beaten by the draw more than anything. Drawn in stall 17, he raced up the nearside rail but unfortunately the pace was drawn down the centre.

The three fastest (first) 3f splits were run by horses racing up the centre of the track. Taajub followed Desert Law up the nearside rail, but his pacesetter was 2.8l slower than those in the centre. Given this handicap, he did extremely well to get within 0.5 lengths of the winner.

This afternoon he faces a similar challenge with another awkward draw but the small field should mean they race together.

The forecast ran could change the complexion of the race but Taajub finished fourth over course and distance last autumn on soft ground, so should handle conditions.
