Swoop With Hawkesbury

Clocked a 33.6s final sectional at Kempton last winter, amongst the fastest ever recorded at the track.

Last year Charlie Appleby won the 1.35 Wolverhampton with the all-weather monster that was Pretend. His star sprinter is on the sidelines at the moment but Hawkesbury could prove an able deputy.

He first caught the eye when running a 33.6s final sectional at Kempton in January. Sub 34s sectionals at the track are rare and often caused by a slow early gallop but this wasn’t the case for Hawkesubry as the finishing speed was 105.6% of the average race speed; a steady gallop but by no means pedestrian.

The 3-year-old didn’t quite translate his talents onto turf but he ran with credit and took a small conditions event at Haydock.

It’s probably the case that he is a much better all-weather horse and he looks the value at 11/4 (BetVictor).
