Stewards' Cup Tip: Aljady

Ran here earlier in week over 7f but record at 6f is 11123. Looked potential player in big sprint handicaps when third at York in May from poor draw. Berthed in stall 28 and first time cheek-pieces.

Aljady makes his second appearance of the week at Glorious Goodwood and having finished 10th in a lesser handicap on Tuesday how is he going to win the Stewards’ Cup?

Firstly he is in the care of Richard Fahey and why would he try win a 16k race when there is a 156k on offer on Saturday. In my opinion that run on Tuesday was merely a prep run for the big thing, it was also Aljady’s first race in a month and a half so perhaps he needed it.

A mark of 94 looks lenient for a horse who is still unexposed and his record over 6f is an impressive 11123. He started the season finishing third in a competitive York handicap but he was unlucky that day because his high draw meant he was racing away from the action.

Thomas Greatrex takes off a useful 5lbs and connections have gone for first time cheek-pieces. Stall 28 means he is drawn on the stand’s side rail it could turn out to be a very good or very bad draw but when looking for a big priced winner we need to cater for these extremes and hope to get lucky.
