Southwell Tips: Thorpe Bay
Has the best draw, arrives in cracking form and his last two wins have come over course and distance.
The 3.35 Southwell is a selling race which brings together several out of form horses either looking for a revival or a new home.
Bedloe’s Island is the top rated horse in the field and has been backed this morning but he has the worst draw to overcome.
The horse that makes most appeal is Thorpe Bay. Unlike his rivals he arrives in top form and I suspect Michael Appleby has dropped him into selling company because of his handicap mark.
The 6-year-old has hit a career high mark, but he has got there by placing in his races, not winning. Sellers and claimers look his obvious route in the short term until his mark starts to fall.
Starting from stall 1, Thorpe Bay has the best draw and all four of his career wins have come at Southwell, the last two over course and distance.
In a small field, he is a good bet at 15/8 (Bet365).
