Southwell Tips: Piceno
First time in a class 6 handicap and showed up well for a long way after chasing very strong pace last time.
Piceno is not a frequent winner on the all-weather (1/38) but there isn’t anything un-genuine about him because he’s 6/39 on turf.
This afternoon he races in the 3.20 Southwell, probably the easiest opportunity he’s faced on an artificial surface. It will be the first time he races in a class 6 handicap and off an all-time low rating of 60.
Last time out he tried to match strides with Llewellyn but couldn’t sustain the strong gallop and tired near the finish.
It is not often he will come up against such a dogged front-runner, especially now he drops down in class.
His sectional adjusted speed rating of 60 makes him competitive in this grade and he is a good bet at 6/1 (William Hill).
