Southwell Tips: Indomitable Spirit
Travelled strongly but couldn’t sustain an overly strong gallop at a mile. Attempts the trip again and might be better suited being ridden with more restraint.
Indomitable Spirit couldn’t quite live up to his name last time at Southwell after tracking an overly strong pace he couldn’t see out the mile trip.
Travelling strongly 3f out he rather fell into a hole and was beaten 14 lengths but his fellow pace-setters fared even worse. His finishing speed was 96.7% of his average race speed, meaning he tired badly.
The 4-year-old isn’t one to give up on though. He is relatively unexposed on the Fibresand and won his penultimate start over 7f at the track.
I still remain to be convinced he stays a mile but it’s harsh to judge him on a gallop that most horses would struggle to sustain. He’s been given 82 days to get over that run and if Tim Clark rides him with more restraint I wouldn’t be surprised if he recaptured the winning threat.
