Southwell Tip: Nigel Nott

Big speed ratings on last two starts, including when carrying 10-2 to victory with 21.71s closing sectional. Fibresand a new test but stride length of 8m+ suggests he should handle galloping track.

The 3.50 Southwell is cracking little race with plenty of in-form course specialists. However, i’m going against the grain and picking Nigel Nott.

This is his first time in a handicap and a mark of 85 underplays his ability. This is only his fourth start and he’s been impressive winning his last two. Last time out at Lingfield he earned a big speed rating after carrying 10-2 to victory having previously recorded a big rating when winning at Chelmsford. I was particularly excited by his closing sectional at Lingfield where he covered the final 2f in a rapid 21.71s.

Nigel Nott is clearly an exciting sprinter on the up but his price is held up my a couple of question marks. Will he handle the Fibresand and the step up to 6f? We have no way of knowing for sure but his stride lenght is over 8m and that suggests he should enjoy a galloping track. His price is bigger because of these imponderables and reward warrants the risk.
