Southwell Tip: Midnight Malibu

Most of the horses in the 1.45 Southwell have raced one or another in some form during the last month and betting on this race depends on whether you view the Tilly Trotter form or that of Midnight Malibu. Both were recent course and distance winners and I fall into the Midnight Malibu camp.

Speed ratings are fairly reliable at Southwell, especially at 5f where they always seem to go a good gallop. When scoring at the track in mid-November, Midnight Malibu earned a speed rating of 81 and although there were no sectional adjustments, it’s the best on offer.

Tim Easterby’s charge is 1/1 at the track and at a venue that lends itself to course specialists he can overcome a 4lbs higher mark.
