Scottish Open: Thomas Pieters

Good record in the Open and finished sixth in this event last year (on a different course). Shows up well in ball-striking statistics on the European Tour and better than bare results of late.

It is amazing how quickly golf evolves, it wasn’t long ago that Thomas Pieters was the ‘next big thing’. He finished 2017 ranked inside the world’s top-40 but a run of good, rather than spectacular results has seen him drop out the world’s top-100 and the public consciousness.

From a betting perspective that is good news because we can get a fancy price on a classy player. The Belgian has missed his last three cuts but a T6 earlier in the season at the Oman Open suggests he’s not one to give up on yet. Statistically there is also plenty to like.  He is in the top-20 on the European Tour in strokes gained off the tee, strokes gained tee-to-green and ranked 27th in stroke average.

His results have been moderate but he’s playing better than the bare form. His results at the Open Championship read 30-44-28 and he finished sixth at last year’s Scottish Open, albeit on a different course. There enough solid reasons to take the triple figure price.
