Scottish National Tip: Roalco De Farges

Finished second behind Tidal Bay in the 2012 Bet365 Gold Cup, suffered with injuries since but back to his best when winning at Newbury last month.

Another week, another National, this time the Scottish version at Ayr. Connections are trying again with Tidal Bay after his mishap at Aintree and his lofty rating means several of the field are running from out of the handicap.

Roalco De Farges in one of those horses but he holds some good form with the top-weight, having finished second behind Tidal Bay in the Bet365 Gold Cup in 2012.

The 9-year-old has suffered from injuries since, making his belated return to action in February after almost two years on the sidelines.

Understandably he lacked for fitness and was pulled-up in heavy ground on his return, but before his stamina gave way he’d been running a good race.

It was a similar story at Ludlow, travelling smoothly through the race before getting tired in the closing stages and finishing third.

However three weeks ago we saw the real Roalco De Farges at Newbury, when he stayed on strongly to take a decent handicap.

After Balthazar King finished a gallant second at Aintree last week it would be some story if the same connections could go one better and win the Scottish National with Roalco De Farges.
