Scarbrough Stakes Tip: Sunsprite

Gets a big weight allowance as a 2-year-old and could make all up stand's rail from his draw. Went too fast last time out but drops back to 5f and has plenty of early speed.

The Scarbrough Stakes (3.00 Doncaster) is a slightly unusually race because it is open to 2-year-olds and Richard Hughes is taking advantage of the generous weight allowance with Sunsprite.

With 8-3 on his back, he is carrying 16lbs less than the next lowest weight in the race and that could make a difference. Last time out Sunsprite got harried for the lead at Ripon and set an overly strong pace that he paid for at the finish. That was his first defeat in four starts and a drop back to 5f is in his favour.

A soft lead isn’t guaranteed but with the stalls against the stand’s side, David Egan could hold his ground and try and make all. Given his light weight, he could be hard to peg back.
