Sandown Tips: Elusivity

Soft ground lover who wasn’t beaten far in a Group 3 over course and distance two years ago. Performances this season suggest he retains ability.

The 2.05 Sandown is a competitive handicap but a combination of a big field, slow ground and a stiff track could see something win from off the pace.

Elusivity hasn’t raced for 84 days but I expect he’s been given the summer off in a bid to avoid fast ground. The 6-year-old is an infrequent winner but his last two victories came on soft ground and he’s down to a workable handicap mark.

A couple of seasons ago he was rated in the mid-hundreds and was only beaten 2.25 lengths over course and distance in a Group 3 sprint.

It was a remarkable performance considering his race was compromised from the start when he was chopped for racing room and hampered against the rail in stall 1.

Elusivity finished the race with a rattle, running the final 2f in approximately 23.5 seconds.

The likes of Tagula Night and Ajjaadd have matched that sectional but only on quicker ground.

If Elusivity can recapture that burst of pace, he should win and there’s no reason to think he’s regressed because he was runner-up in a class 2 handicap in May.
