Salisbury: Samoot

Opening handicap mark generous. She showed a blistering turn of foot to win at Wolverhampton, clocking the fastest closing sectional of the race by 0.63s. Plenty of improvement to come.

Samoot makes her handicap debut off a mark of 80 and that seems to have underestimated her ability. She won by a next at Wolverhampton on her last start but she was much better than the winning margin.

Held-up behind a steady gallop, she reeled in the leaders by accelerating into a quickening pace, not the easiest thing to do. Her closing sectional was 0.63s faster than anything else in the race and gave her a substantial upgrade on what was already a reasonable speed figure.

She still looked a little green, raced with head to one-side up the straight but responded to the whip and probably will improve for the run. Isola Rossa is the danger on her Lingfield run although she was well beaten (perhaps by a smart horse) on her return at Kempton.
