Wokingham Tips: Shared Equity

Wokingham Tips: Shared Equity

Set an overly strong gallop on Derby Day considering the going but plugged on well for second. Better judged ride can see him score.

The ground on Derby Day was slower than usual, officially good to soft and that caught out several of the jockeys. Apart from the Coronation Cup (and Epsom Dash run on the straight course) the races on Derby Day were run at a quicker early pace than par and horses ridden with restraint faired better.

Winner’s margin in lengths at sectional (3.47f out)

2.00 Gawdawlpin 2.9
2.35 Epsom Icon 4.8
3.10 Postponed 5.6 (steadily run race)
4.30 Harzand 5.2
5.15 Green Light 7.0
5.50 Blaine 6.3

Those ridden prominently were at a disadvantage and they include Shared Equity. A regular front-runner, the tactics to make all on a sharp track were sound, unfortunately Graham Lee went a stride too quick. It resulted in a finishing speed 100.7% of the average race speed, much slower than the par 105.5% for the track.

Considering he went too fast, he did extremely well to hang on for second and his speed rating gets a hefty sectional upgrade to 103.

Racing off a mark of 100 he looks potentially well handicapped and his record is good. In 18 races he has won 4 times and placed on 8 further occasions and is at his best with cut in the ground.

The one downside is that the Wokingham is often run at a furious gallop but Shared Equity has won in big fields before. Potentially the runners might split into two or three groups and if they go a sensible gallop, Jedd O’Keeffe could be celebrating a big win.
