Wokingham Tips: Amazour
Strongly run 6f on a straight track ideal. Not beaten far at Haydock when carrying a penalty and not suited by steady early pace.
The Wokingham (5.00 Ascot) is usually a cavalry charge up the straight 6f and if they go hell for leather it could set up the race for a horse proven over further.
Amazour finished sixth in the Britannia over a mile at Royal Ascot two years ago and although he is better known as a sprinter nowadays, his extra stamina could help.
Last time out at Haydock he was poorly treated at the weights in a conditions stakes, carrying 4lbs more than his rivals and to make matters trickier they went a steady early gallop. The race couldn’t have gone much worse for Amazour but he was closing at this finish with the fastest closing sectional. All things considered he ran well and earned an adjusted speed rating of 106.
When running over 6f on a straight track his record is 21971013 but that improves to 2113 if limited to going rated good, good to firm or standard.
He should get ideal conditions and with a bit of luck from stall 2, he could go close.
