Wokingham Tip: Bielsa

Unexposed, progressive sprinters are enjoying themselves in these prestigious sprint handicaps and Bielsa is an exciting prospect. Won 4 of 5 starts, visually impressive and good on the clock.

With big prize money on offer in these Heritage handicaps connections are campaigning their top sprinters slightly differently nowadays. This might be a case of confirmation bias but the likes of Cape Byron, Khadeem and Oxted all took big sprint handicaps last year; they had unexposed profiles and were on the upgrade.

Bielsa fits the bill for the Wokingham, having won four of his five career starts. Successful on a variety of ground and with good speed figures under his belt, this could prove a stepping stone before winning Group races. His one below-par performance came in the Portland but that possibly came too soon for a horse who hasn’t stood much racing.

Six of the last ten Wokingham winners were aged five and that trend looks set to continue.
