St James’s Palace Tips: Night Of Thunder

Night Of Thunder beat Kingman fair and square in the 2000 Guineas so why are they the other way round in the betting?

The St James’s Palace Stakes (4.25 Ascot) is practically a re-run of the 2000 Guineas with the first two home at Newmarket going head to head again.

Night Of Thunder won their first meeting but the market expects Kingman to turn around the form and I cannot understand why.

Simon Rowlands of Timeform produced an excellent sectional debrief of the 2000 Guineas and his logic is hard to fault.

Night Of Thunder quickened impressively to finish the race more strongly than Kingman and that doesn’t take into account he veered sharply in the last 100 yards.

There were no hard luck stories; Night Of Thunder was just the better horse on the day.

On a different day, on a different track the result might change but the market has the first two in the betting the wrong way round.

Night Of Thunder is the horse to beat and should be favourite, not 5/2 (William Hill).
