Royal Hunt Cup Tips: Convey

Royal Hunt Cup Tips: Convey

Runner-up last two starts but unlucky the way race has unfolded. Looks a 110+ horse on speed ratings.

Convey is the classic example of ‘Group horse in a handicap’ and granted luck in-running he should go close in the Hunt Cup (5.00 Ascot).

In a big-field handicap at York he lost the race because he was denied a clear run and at Haydock he just failed to reel in Home Of The Brave after he got first run in a steadily run race.

In defeat, Convey clocked the fastest closing sectional of the meeting and earned a whopping adjusted speed rating of 111. That might seem excessive but the Racing Post gave him a rating of 117 for that run and it seems he is Group 2 class at worst.

Despite being rated 106, he only has the shoulder 9-6 and the biggest danger could be the draw. In stall 33, Ryan Moore has the rail to race against but if the pace is stronger on the far side, his chances could be scuppered.

Nevertheless, he is probably the best horse in the race and could become the seventh 4-year-old to win the Royal Hunt Cup in the last 10 years. Back him at 11/1 each-way with Paddy Power and get 1/4 odds for a top-6 finish.
