Royal Ascot Tips: Bronze Prince

Course and distance winner and beat the red-hot favourite for the Royal Hunt Cup earlier this year.

Plan A is out of the window for the 5.35 Royal Ascot with Lightning Cloud redirected to the Wokingham on Saturday. That isn’t a disaster as there was a second horse I was very close to putting up as my selection – Bronze Prince.

Last July, he won a valuable handicap over course and distance on similar ground to today. For that reason alone he shouldn’t be a 33/1 (Ladbrokes) chance.

His recent form is also encouraging. He defeated Dimension by 0.75 lengths in May, solid form considering that horse was sent off favourite for the Royal Hunt Cup on Wednesday.

Last time out he finished a good fifth at Goodwood considering he was involved in a pace-duel for most of the race. Incidentally, the horse he duelled with finished last, 7 lengths worse off than Bronze Prince.

A £50,000 purchase out of John Gosden’s yard, connections must have been targeting exactly this type of handicap when they parted with their cash. At 33/1 (Ladbrokes) they can recoup that outlay here; back Bronze Prince each-way with 1/4 odds for a top-4 finish.
