Royal Ascot Tip: Lightning Cloud

Best of the high drawn horses when fifth over course and distance on his last start.

According to the pace chart the 5.35 Royal Ascot could be a muddling race with no obvious pace-setters. Having looked at the race numerous times, I think Bronze Prince is the most likely front-runner but if he doesn’t take up the cudgels then Advanced could do the donkey work.

Advanced might sacrifice his own race to help the more fancied stable companion Lightning Cloud, who is drawn nearby.

On his last start, Lightning Cloud was unlucky to finish fifth in the valuable Victoria Cup over course and distance. He wasn’t drawn near the pace that day and left marooned in the centre of the track. The first four home were all drawn in single figures, with Lightning Cloud doing best of the high numbers having raced from stall 15.

Kevin Ryan is unlikely to let the scenario happen again, especially with a potential pace-maker nearby. A winner in 5 of his 11 career starts, Lightning Cloud is an exciting horse and looks the best bet in the race at 11/1 (William Hill).
