Ripon: Canford Bay
Ran well in the spring but has struggled on soft ground this summer and tumbled down the weights as a result. Two-time course and distance winner who could easily bounce back to form.
Canford Bay started his turf campaign finishing a close third to Dapper Man over course and distance. They meet again in the 5.55 contest with Canford Bay 14lbs better off at the weights. That is largely down to some poor runs of late but most have come on soft or heavy ground, excusable because the 7-year-old has done most of his winning on better ground. His record on good/good to firm is 4/25 anything softer he is 1/19.
His is twice a winner at Ripon and showed a good level of form in the spring. The handicapper has given him a real chance at the weights and there enough reasons to expect and improved showing.
