Racing Post Trophy Tips: Jacobean

Aidan O’Brien knows how to win the race and this doesn’t look a vintage renewal.

This year’s Racing Post Trophy doesn’t look a particularly strong renewal and I fancy Jacobean can buck the trend of recent winners.

The last ten winners of the race had all previously won over 7f or further before tasting success at Doncaster. Jacobean falls-down here having finished second on his debut at the Curragh but crucially he’s got Aidan O’Brien in his corner.

The Ballydoyle trainer has won three of the last five Racing Post Trophies; therefore he knows the type of horse needed for the contest.

The High Chapparal colt showed greenness on his debut at the Curragh but powered home making up 4-lengths in the final two furlongs to finish only 1.5 lengths behind Royal Navy Ship, a potentially very smart individual himself.

In opposition, the British challenge consists of Elm Park and Celestial Path and although they’ve done nothing wrong they’ve not beaten much.

With Bet365 going ¼ odds for a top-3 finish, Jacobean looks an each-way steal at 10/3 if the eight runners stand their ground.
