Poor Judge Of Pace Cost Barnaby Brook
Barnaby Brook went off too fast on his first outing for almost two years. Martin Harley takes over from young apprentice.
A fortnight ago, Barnaby Brook finished 1.75 lengths behind Celtic Artisan but I expect the placings to be reversed in the 5.40 Chelmsford.
Last time out Barnaby Brook was ridden by inexperienced apprentice Samuel Clarke and he got the fractions completely wrong. Clarke set an unsustainable gallop which meant the 6-year-old finished the race legless, the finishing speed of 96.3% was much slower than par.
Sectionals timings are a fair indicator but to confirm the numbers fellow pacesetter Luv U Lucky finished a tailed off last.
Under the circumstances Barnaby Brook did extremely well, especially considering it was his first start for 21 months. Martin Harley takes over in the saddle and if the race hasn’t left a mark he should be up to winning.
