Pontefract Tips: Augusta Ada
Would have won her last start in class 2 company if she’d had a stronger pace to chase. Drops down in grade this afternoon.
Augusta Ada has always been highly regarded by her connections and we saw why even in defeat at Newmarket.
The early pace was steady, (102.4% overall finishing speed) and she was very keen in the first half of the race. Paul Hanagan eventually got her settled but she was left with too much ground to make up as the leaders quickened.
Augusta Ada eventually finished fourth, 1.25 lengths behind the winner but her 22.9s for the final two furlongs was the quickest in the field and she deserves a healthy mark up.
At Pontefract, a combination of a big field and a stiff finish should see the leaders come back to her and she is a previous course winner.
The soft ground is a slight unknown but she handled it as a 2-year-old and she takes a sizeable drop in class this afternoon. At 12/1 (Bet365) she is a cracking bet.
