Pontefract Tip: Summerghand
Not had much luck in big handicaps but been running big speed ratings in defeat. Has won 6 times in single digit fields and although has a big weight, less likely to be a hostage to fortune.
If it weren’t for bad luck, Summerghand would have no luck. He’s run some absolutely crackers in big field handicaps and was a stride to late in making his run at the Wokingham, failing by a nose.
He’s now up to a mark of 105 but i’m not sure that is beyond him given the huge speed ratings he has been running. His recent form suggests he is at his best coming off a strong pace, generated by a big field but six of his career victories have come in single digit fields. Sometimes it helps to deliver his closing burst from a bit nearer the leaders, trying to make up numerous lengths in a short time frame can lead to hard luck stories.
His biggest rival on paper is Golden Apollo and can he give Tim Easterby’s sprinter 12lbs. I think he can and still win.
