Pontefract Tip: Canford Bay

Classic Pursuit and Canford Bay finished 1-2 over course and distance ten days ago and given the strength of that race I expect them to fight out the finish again.

Peculiarly, given the fast conditions, the jockeys race towards the nearside rail/centre of the track meaning they covered much more ground than usual. This lead to slow finishing speeds and Canford Bay was one such horse who had little left in the tank. In effect he set up the race for Classic Pursuit but he was by far the highest finisher of the earlier leaders.

Ignoring jockey claims, Canford Bay enjoys a 12lbs pull with Classic Pursuit for a 1.5 length defeat but given the way he set up the race, he can turn the tables before we even consider the change in weights.
