Pontefract: Peggie Sue

Sat too close to the pace at Newcastle but clocked a good speed rating in defeat. Won two starts back, so should still be in form and a previous course and distance winner last season.

Peggie Sue has a career high mark to overcome in the 2.50 Pontefract but she has conditions to suit. She enjoys closing off a strong pace and ran a good speed figure (75) when winning two starts back at Chepstow.

Last time out at Newcastle she was much closer to the pace, which meant she had little reserve to fight off the closers. The horses that beat her came from much further back in the pack.

I suspect she will be ridden with more restraint, especially with Bossipop likely to cut out the running. She won over course and distance in May last year, again off a strong pace and she won’t be inconvenienced by any rain.
