Paddy Power Gold Cup Tips: Buywise

Targeted this race after winning at Cheltenham in April. Has bundles of ability and the best is yet to come.

Buywise has always looked a smart horse in the making, winning five of his last six starts and the Paddy Power Gold Cup (2.30 Cheltenham) is the ideal race for him.

He rounded off last season with an impressive nine-length victory at Cheltenham in a Grade 2 handicap and his handicap mark of 146 is workable having already achieved a Racing Post Rating of 151.

A quirky character and not the most fluent of jumpers, he will cause the odd fright but he’s only fallen once in his career, on his first start in a hunters’ chase.

Evan Williams gave him a spin over hurdles last month and although it wasn’t faultless it served as a good warm-up for this weekend.

He’s the right age, and has the right profile and at 7/1 (William Hill) is a good price.
