Nottingham Tips: Oldjoesaid

Record in class 5 turf handicaps is 1116 with defeat caused by a combination of a modest gallop and fast ground; completely different conditions today.

The 2.00 Nottingham is a fascinating sprint handicap, you could make cases for several of these but I doubt anyone has stronger claims than Oldjoesaid.

When racing in class 5 handicaps on turf his record is 1116, his only defeat coming over course and distance 28 days ago.

Normally that would be a concern but having watched the race he can be described as unlucky.

Royal Bajan was allowed to control the race from the front, his finishing speed of 101.4% indicates a solid rather than strong gallop and that coupled with a favourable draw meant nothing could get past him.

Everything behind went too slowly through the early part of the race, but the eye-catching performer was Oldjoesaid who stormed home in 34.2s, the quickest final 2f split in the field.

The performance showed the 10-year-old is in good heart and his chances are further enhanced on this afternoon’s softer ground.

Record on good to soft or softer: 5/26
Record on good or quicker: 4/51

With Graham Lee in the saddle another positive, 17% strike rate (12-69) for Paul Midgley in 2014, I expect a big run from Oldjoesaid at 12/1 (Betfred)
