Goodwood Tips: Lewisham
Revitalised by a move to John Jenkins and slightly unlucky last time when race developed away from him.
Lewisham has had his injury problems, he only raced once in 2015 but since moving to John Jenkins he seems a more sound horse.
In three starts for his new trainer he has finished 213 and ran well in defeat at Chepstow 20 days ago.
Drawn in stall 6, he raced away from the two pacesetters (in stalls two and three) who set an even gallop and dominated the finish. Lewisham was stationed nearer the centre of the track and he couldn’t keep tabs on the leaders as the race developed up the far side. Despite running the fastest closing sectional, his efforts were in vain as the leaders were beyond recall.
The form has been franked with the runner-up Elusivity winning his next start and the time of the Chepstow race was good for the grade.
Early in his career Lewisham was rated 107 and although he is unlikely to scale those heights again he still has some headroom racing off a mark of 70.
