Nottingham Tips: Douglas Bank

Nottingham Tips: Douglas Bank

Everything against him last time. Went too fast, first start in almost two years and had to shoulder 10st in a maiden. This more suitable.

Considering he was a 100/1 chance, Douglas Bank ran ok to finishing only 4.5 lengths behind the winner last time. Examine the circumstances of the race and suddenly it becomes a standout performance.

Lit-up in first time blinkers, Douglas Bank charged through the race, setting an unstustainable gallop in soft ground. His finishing speed of 89.2% was much slower than par and it was a miracle he was only beaten 4.5 lengths.

Not only did he go too fast but he also had to shoulder 10 stone because he was a 4-year-old up against younger horses in a maiden. Add the fact it was his first start in almost two years and it was some performance.

This afternoon he drops back in trip and is given a workable handicap mark of 68.

Roy Bowring has plenty of winners at Nottingham, his home track and his runners are in good form, with two winners in the last fortnight both ridden by John Egan. Under more suitable circumstances Douglas Bank could run a big race.
