Newmarket Tips: Lucky Beggar
Tumbled down the handicap but still retains plenty of ability. Ryan Moore an eye-catching booking.
The handicapper has given Lucky Beggar a huge chance with his rating of 84 and it’s probably only a matter of time before he capitalises. At his best over 5f or 6f on good ground, he should be able cope with soft conditions over the minimum trip.
A couple of spins on the all-weather haven’t worked out but he was only beaten 4.5 lengths in a strong race at York and he’s 5lbs lower for the effort.
Three starts back he was beaten 7.5 lengths on the Rowley course but suffered from racing alone on the far side rail. His loneliness was compounded by Darryll Holland misjudging the fractions and going too quick.
Ryan Moore is an eye-catching booking, he rode him to a nose defeat but his relatively infrequent rides for Charlie Hills usually pay dividend; 23% strike rate - level stakes profit over past 5 seasons.
