Newmarket Tips: El Viento

Combination of 6f and ease in the ground could see him recapture his early season form.

Last time I tipped El Viento he boiled over at the start and ran no sort of race. He is a difficult character but I’m willing to give him a second chance in the 2.55 Newmarket. The rain-softened ground shouldn’t inconvenience him, nor should the step up in trip to 6f, as he looked outpaced over the minimum 5f last time out.

El Viento first came to my attention when running well on his seasonal reappearance. He was one of many to suffer from Doncaster’s strong draw bias this season. A high draw has been crucial over sprint distances, with horses struggling when drawn in the bottom half of the field. Starting from stall 10/22 he did well to finish within 3.75 lengths of the winner.

Richard Fahey saddles two in the race, with Irish Heartbeat his other runner. Discussing their prospects in his sportinglife.com column, he declared himself happy with both: “I thought Irish Hearbeat ran alright at York the other day. With the forecast rain in his favour he could bounce back….El Viento’s in good order too, he just boiled over last time and to be honest there wouldn’t be much between my two.”

Considering El Viento is 33/1 (BetVictor) and Irish Heartbeat is 9/1 (Stan James), I’m happy to take the fancy prices on the former.
