Newmarket Tip: Normandy Barriere
Runner-up in this race two years ago and is 3-7 when William Buick is aboard. A big price considering he has ideal conditions and handicap mark isn't insurmountable.
Normandy Barriere seems to have been running in these types of races forever but he is still only a 7-year-old and has won off this mark before. He is at his best running over 6f on good to firm ground, the exact conditions he faces in the 1.50 Newmarket.
His form at the end of the 2018 season was inconsistent but the key pointer to an expected good run could be the jockey booking of William Buick. When paired together their record is 1121900, most of those occasions have come at Ascot but they were also runners-up in this race in 2017. Incidentally Normandy Barriere was racing off today’s mark and sent off as 7/2 favourite.
Given all these positives he shouldn’t be 16/1.
