Newmarket Tip: Major Jumbo

Finished outside the frame just once in nine starts in 2017. Has plenty of early pace and has clocked some impressive speed figures already during his short career.

Major Jumbo is a horse who first caught my eye during the winter of 2017, running some fast sectionals and earning an adjusted speed rating of 91, when still rated just 82 at Wolverhampton. He went from strength to strength during the calendar year only once finishing outside the places in nine starts.

A 4-year-old with plenty of raw speed, connections must have been pleasantly surprised to see him last home over 6f at York, as that widens his options but stepping back down to 5f is certainly not a negative.

A winner on good to soft at Thirsk as a juvenile, he handles cut in the ground and the big speed figures he ran last year suggest he is still well treated off a mark of 94 and he has the assistance of a promising claimer on board.
