Newmarket Tip: Haddaf

Listed winner as a 3-year-old but should improve with age and moved to a yard that specialises in sprinters. Quick underfoot conditions will suit.

Picked up for 110,000 Guineas during the autumn sales, Haddaf can start to repay connections in the 5.20 Newmarket. He was a three-time winner last season including taking a Listed raced at Sandown. He found life tougher against older horses later in the season but that coincided with softer ground, which wouldn’t have been to his liking. He was only beaten 1.25 lengths at Leicester in October in a good race for the grade despite setting and overly strong pace that took its toll at the finish.

Over the winter he moved to Robert Cowell and although he showed precious little on his return to racing at Kempton that was over 6f and his string often need their first run of the season.

Haddaf was entered at Newbury last week, suggesting he is ready to run but this looks a better fit on account of the quicker ground.
Equimou is a big danger at the weights if repeating his close fourth in the Palace House Stakes but he is a hard horse to catch right and is saver material at best.
