Newmarket Tip: Breathless Times
Has run fast closing sectionals on the all-weather but not had the strong pace to aim at, which he should get in this race. Recent wind operation could improve form further.
Breathless Times flopped on his only start on turf but he might have a very apt name because a breathing operation immediately followed and that could revive his career. At Newmarket he returns from a 54-day absence and also has a tongue-tie, presumably to aid his breathing.
Connections opted for surgery for a valid reason because there is plenty of underlying ability with this horse. On Good Friday he was desperately unlucky to finish fourth, storming home in a rapid 21.42s off a steady early gallop. This should be in his favour at Newmarket with a likely strong pace given the 20+ runners.
So far this season Breathless Times has run the 43rd fastest closing sectional at Wolverhampton (1633 runners) and the 9th fastest at Lingfield (1038 runners). He’s got ability and this could be the place to showcase it.
